Towards Anti-racist Practice: a diversity training CD-ROM for Community Justice Workers

Introduction

TSC Productions along with The National Probation Service, Midlands Consortium and The Institute of Applied Social Studies at the University of Birmingham have come together to produce this community justice training CD-ROM.

This program uses the power of multimedia to provide the user with the ability to gain experiential community justice learning in a safe environment. This means that workers, trainees etc... using this tool can make mistakes and learn from them without actually harming any real person.

How is the program structured ?

The program has been created to provide information about racism and issues of racism and community justice. The person(s) using the program are allowed to test out the knowledge they have gained in a practical way by using a number of quizzes, scenarios and virtual case studies. The following illustrates how the elements of the program come together.

Introduction Section

The Introduction section provides the user with information about how to use the program.

This section also provides information about how issues of racism can and have impacted on practice and policy in the community justice field.

The Racism section provides an in-depth look at the historical concepts of Race and the subsequent causes of Racism. This section has been created to allow you to examine your beliefs around the biological and social constructs of race.

This section helps you explore how oppression in society can cause inequality for the Black communities in a number of settings.

Racism
Case Study

The Case Studies section allows community justice workers to test out the information that they have gained in life like simulations where their actions and in-actions will be assessed from an anti racist point of view that embraces a Black Perspectives approach.

This section will then provide feedback about your progress and how your performance may impact on the people that you work for and with.
